Physical activity is a critical part of everyone’s weight maintenance – regardless of undergoing bariatric surgery or not. Not only does physical activity burn calories (a huge benefit!), it’s also great for cardiovascular health, improving mood, and helping with sleep issues. Physical activity also combats weight gain after gastric sleeve surgery and constipation after gastric sleeve surgery.
While it’s important to get as much physical activity as you are able, you should not rush into it. Your doctor will clear you for exercise after surgery when you are ready. This time can vary from patient to patient and for that reason, it’s important for you to work with your medical team to create an individualized plan.
Below are a few of our favorite low impact forms of physical activity:
- walking
- swimming
- cycling
- elliptical training
- pilates
- yoga
We’d love to hear from you! What are you favorite ways to exercise?
